10 Sahyadri Treks to Do This Monsoon
The Sahyadris in monsoon are a different mountain range. What looks brown and rocky in April turns emerald, dripping and cinematic between June and September. Waterfalls appear on cliffs where there were none. Streams cut across trails. The air smells like wet earth and khichdi.
Here are the 10 monsoon treks our leaders keep booking themselves — ranked from beginner to serious.
1. Andharban Jungle Trek — Pune
13 km descent through the 'Dark Forest' — a canopy so thick the sun rarely reaches the trail. Best in July–August when the entire route runs like a stream.
2. Devkund Waterfall Trek — Bhira
2 hours of moderate trekking that opens into a hidden emerald plunge pool. It's Instagram-famous for a reason — but we do controlled batches to protect it.
3. Kothaligad (Peth Fort) — Karjat
Small, punchy, dripping. Beginner-friendly. Cave temple at the top. Kids can do it.
4. Tikona Fort — Pawna
Triangular fort with a 3-hour trail. Perfect for first-timers. Views over Pawna lake.
5. Lohagad + Visapur — Lonavala
Two forts in one day. Visapur has the more dramatic monsoon waterfalls.
6. Bhimashankar Jungle Trek — Pune
Trek through the ancient Shidi Ghat forest to the Jyotirlinga temple. Watch for giant squirrels.
7. Naneghat — Junnar
Trek to the reverse waterfall spectacle above Malshej Ghat. Camping option at the top.
8. Kalsubai — Igatpuri
The highest peak in Maharashtra. Slippery in monsoon but the summit views are unreal.
9. Prabalgad — Panvel
Kalavantin's bigger brother. Rocky, remote, dripping. Not for beginners.
10. Sandhan Valley — Bhandardara
The Valley of Shadows. Rappelling in the canyon, camping by the river. Advanced-level, IMF gear required.
